Welcome to the SAC 4th Annual Science Fair

Science Academy of Chicago had its 4th Annual Science Fair on Saturday, December 13, 2003 with a remarkable participation.

Students from SAC, where science projects are mandatory and other schools enjoyed showing off their outstanding projects to judges, parents, and guests. One could not miss the enthusiasm and ambition that the students carried out during the fair. They were well prepared and had done projects that were well above their grade level.

Science Fair was also an absolute indication of high parental involvement at SAC. All of the parents were present supporting their children and helping their school organizing this event. They were to greet people at the main door along with alumni and waling them to the rooms that the guests were supposed to go. Parents also served food during lunch. During judging, when only students were allowed in the exhibit area, parents had a chance to mingle with each other in a designated coffee room.

Science Academy of Chicago invites professors or graduate students in the field of science only to judge the project. 21 participated in the fair and they had a chance to have a lunch with students and the parents and mingle with them in a more relaxed atmosphere than during that of judging. They shared their feedbacks, suggestions, and impressions with parents and students as well as teachers.

Award ceremony started with principal’s speech followed by one of the judges, Paul Dolan from Northeastern Illinois University. The principal, Salim Ucan congratulated the students, teachers, and parents for their collaborative efforts, which had created such a great fair. Paul Dolan compared the projects at the fair with those of his students at the college and congratulated the students for doing such advance level projects.

Awards presented to students after the speeches. Every participant was recognized and awarded, while first place was getting $ 200 in cash. At the end of the fair everybody expressed their congratulations to the students and staff of SAC for organizing such a remarkable event. And the staff was already had started thinking about next year’s fair and making plans for it.
