Clubs
Here are the descriptions of the club activities offered by SAC.
- Activity Club (Grades 3-8)
Activity Club will be led by Ms. Wodrich and Ms. Scanlin. Activity Club will consist of outside activities (to be determined by supervisors) when weather permits, and indoor activities when appropriate. Activities may include, but are not limited to basketball, four square, tag, board games, reading, and drawing.
- Activity Club (Kindergarten)
Fun filled activities and games for Kindergarteners offered by Mrs. Adams.
- Battle of the Books (Grades 4,5,6)
Battle of the Books is a Niles Public Library sponsored reading competition. This club/competition is open only to students in grades 4-6. The club meetings with Ms. Scanlin will consist of reading novels and preparing for the upcoming competitions. Students will be expected to do additional reading and preparation outside and addition to the weekly club meeting. Competition dates are as follows: October 21, November 4, 11, 18, and December 2, 9, 16. All of these dates are on Wednesdays and the competitions are held at the Niles Public Library in 45 minute intervals between 5:30-7:30pm. There needs to be at least 4 students to start a Battle of the Books team, but upwards of 12 students would be more advantageous. Niles Public Library has put out a list of 60 books to be read for the competition. Ms. Scanlin will try to produce copies of the necessary books but students may be required to purchase a title or two to help out.
- Game Club (Grades 1-2)
Game Club will meet every Friday after school with Ms. Keil and Mrs. Clarke. Students will work on puzzles, games, and other types of activities. They will learn how to strategize to win against their opponent and the importance of good sportsmanship.
- Lego Club (Grades 1-2)
Lego Club will meet every Thursday after school with Ms. Keil. During Lego Club students will construct buildings, vehicles, and other objects. Student will also get to talk about their Lego creation with their fellow classmates.
- Activity Club (Grades 1-2)
Students will engage in fun filled activities! Everything from arts and crafts to soccer and educational games. Mrs. Clarke will supervise this activity club.
- Lego Club (Kindergarten)
Lego Club will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays after school with Ms. Oznur. In the Lego Club students will test their basic skills to build objects from Legos. Student will also work in groups to construct bigger and complex objects with their classmates.
- Guitar Club (Grades 3-8)
In the Guitar club, the students will meet with Mrs. Clark on every Wednesday to learn how to play acoustic guitar in a beginner and intermediate level. The students will be able to perform at the Talent show and year end school festival.
- Violin, Viola and Cello Club (Grades 1-8)
Mrs. Clark will teach how to play violin, viola and cello from beginner to advance level. Students meet her on Tuesdays after school. Please ask Mrs. Clark, if you need help on how to buy or rent a music instrument.
- Cooking Club (Grades 6,7,8)
The cooking club members meet with Mrs. Fatosh on every Thursday to learn the basic cooking skills and how to choose the ingredients and spices to make delicious meals. They will try different recipes from Turkish and American Cuisine and will be able to eat them after cooking.
- Folk Dance Club (Grades 3-8)
Mrs. Fatosh will teach “Harmandali”, an Aegean Sea side folk dance, to the group of students who are interested in learning and performing folk dance. They will meet every Monday afterschool.
- Soccer Club (Grades 3-5)
In the Soccer Club the students meet with Mrs. Dambrosio every Thursday after school. Thestudents will learn how to pass, shoot, tackle and score. They can also establish teams and play soccer games outside in good weather conditions.
- Advance Science Team (Grades 7-8)
Students prepare Science Project to compete in IJAS, regional and State competitions. They will meet every Tuesday and Friday after school.
- Math League (Grades 4,5,6)
Students practice their math skills on test and the top scoring individuals will compete against other schools on several levels in American Math League Competition. Students will meet every Tuesday afterschool.
- Math League (Grades 7,8)
Students practice their math skills on test and the top scoring individuals will compete against other schools on several levels in American Math League Competition. Students will meet every Wednesday afterschool.
- Turkish Movie Club (Grades 3-8)
Students get together to watch and discuss different Turkish Movies to improve their vocabulary and conversation skills. They will meet with Mr.Cavus every Monday afterschool.
