ADVANCE ATHLETICS with Mr. Z.| Thursday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 5th – 8th
Students will participate in various athletics activities throughout the year.
MATH-Lethes with Mrs. Meral |Tuesday from 3:20 – 4:30 PM for 4th – 5th Grade
ADVANCED MATH-Lethes with Mrs. Cavus |Tuesday from 3:20 – 4:30 PM for 6th – 8th Grade
The purpose of this club is to prepare the students for Math Contests and help them to improve their problem solving skills by using different problem solving strategies.This is a competitive club and members are selected by teachers based on NWEA scores.
ART CLUB with Ms. Choate | Tuesday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 4th – 8th
Students will meet once per week to create collaborative and individual artwork that will be placed into public spaces and competitions.  This club will give students an opportunity to experience the art world outside of the school setting.  This club gives students a safe space to make work to express their personal feelings.
COMPUTER OLYMPIAD with Mr. Saltas | Friday 3:15 – 4:00 PM (Every other week) for for ALL
This club will teach various programming language including by not limited to Java, C, C++.  Students are expected to participate in all of the classes and must submit all assignments on or before due date.   Students must bring a USB Drive.
CONCERT ORCHESTRA with Mrs. Colon |Tuesday from 3:15 – 4:30 PM for 6th – 8th Grade
The concert orchestra experience acquaints the student with standard symphonic repertoire, string orchestra selections, and light concert materials.  This group of students is expected to participate in school performances, regional competitions, community outreach program and a spring break trip to Walt Disney World.  LIMIT 30 STUDENTS.
DRUM CLUB/PREP BAND | Wednesday and Thursday from 3:15 – 4:30 PM for 4th – 8th Grade
This energetic ensemble’s purpose is to support all athletic events, be a cheer leader and promote school spirit.    Performance at athletic events, pep rallies and parades throughout the school year is expected.  This exploratory club is open to all walks of life we just ask for you to have fun!  Regular attendance required.  Students with excessive absences will be dropped.
FILM CLUB with Mr. Hansen | Monday from 3:15 – 4:15 PM for 6th – 8th Grade
Program goals:·         To develop an understanding and greater appreciation of the art and history of filmmaking·         To acquire analysis skills to better understand cinema and the filmmakers’ intentions·         To build the skills and understanding necessary to work in groups to create digital projects.
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (GIRLS) with Ms. Gruenke | Monday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 5th – 7th
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (BOYS) with Mr. Uslu | Thursday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 5th – 7thThe FIRST Lego League introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.Elementary and middle-school students get to:·         Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology

  • Apply real-world math and science concepts
  • Research challenges facing today’s scientists
  • Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills
  • Participate in tournaments and celebrations

What FLL teams accomplish is nothing short of amazing. It’s fun. It’s exciting. And the skills they learn will last a lifetime.

This is a competitive club and will require $100 participation fee to pay for registrations for competitions.

FIRST TECH CHALLENGE ROBOTICS CLUB with Mr. Saltas
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 3 – 5 PM for 8th GradeFTC is designed for students in grades 7-12 to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using a variety of languages. Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.Students get to:·

  • Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments
  • Compete for a spot in the World Championship

Students will design a city based on a topic in a computer program and create a physical model of it by using recycle items.   LIMIT 7 Students

MUSIC CLUB with Mrs. Colon |Saturday from 11 AM – 12 PM for 4th – 6th Grade
Music club is considered an exploratory club. It provides opportunity for each student to find joy in working together as an ensemble. This is a beginner level organization that teaches basic elements of music playing and also includes an introduction to music literature.
NEWSPAPER/MEDIA CLUB with Ms. Bartucci |Thursday from 3:25 – 4:30 PM for 5th – 8th
The Newspaper Club will publish at least four newspapers during the 2015-2016 school year. The students will start by researching and making decisions about what they want their newspaper to look like.  The students will write articles by going through the writing process until ready to publish. Our goal is to create a newspaper that captures the interest of our Science Academy of Chicago students and staff while keeping them informed.Students interested will be trying out for a preferred staff job (i.e. reporter, photographer, designer.) There is a $10 fee for staff t-shirt/sweatshirt.ATTENDANCE POLICY: Newspaper Staff members must be present at all Thursday meetings. Members are allowed up to three excused absences (with written note). After three absences, members will be dropped from their club position.  LIMIT 15
SCIENCE CLUB with Mr. Linardakis | Thursday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 4th – 8thThe Science Club will meet to enhance science learning of topics, social issues, explore careers in science, and serves to enrich the science learning experience, including addressing science projects.
SOCCER SKILLS with Mr. Lakofka | Monday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 4th – 8thThe goal of the soccer club is to improve players trapping, dribbling, passing, and shooting skills.
WORDS R US with Mrs. Zielke |Monday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM for 1st – 4th
This club is an opportunity to have fun building words and putting ideas together with board games and word puzzles.
